Can't view remote computers in domain

By daniel ·
We are running a mixed domain with Windows NT4 and Windows 2K Server at our main office and Windows 2K Server at our remote locations. Through network neighborhood at our local site, all W2K Prof. client workstations and NT / W2K servers are shown, although none of the remote W2K Prof workstations or W2K servers are shown. In addition, at the remote locations, only the local workstations and W2K server are shown in network places.

We are running WINS w/ replication on a W2K server and NT4 server at our main location. We can ping the remote clients and servers (by name), and can access through run \\server name, although cannot see them in network neighborhood.

We appreciate any suggestions

Hi.

It looks like this is a netbios issue, wich in return impicates the WINS setup.

On a client without wins server ip adress configured you will see the local computers, not remote ones.
With a oneway replication, you will see all computers on 1 location, and only local computers on the other one.
With a corruptet WINS database, manythings can happend:)

1. Check you wins server( it would be better to use a w2k<->w2k wins server solution than nt4<->w2k solution.
2. Check that replication occurs both ways, if not fix it.
3. check that all clients is set up with primary wins server ip to the local, secondary to the remote wins server.

It should work:)

Extras:)
WINS server should not be run on multihomed servers(servers that participate on more than 1 network)
WINS Servers own IP config should point primary WINS to self, secondary to none.

Good Luck..
