By bwdavis ·
Has anybody heard of an cat 5 pinout for
596B? I have the pinout for T568a and T568B
I think the 596b is an ibm pinout from an
ran to an rs232 device. Thanks for any help

Here's the pin sequence for cat5.

Cat 5 568A
pin 1 white/green
pin 2 green/white
pin 3 white/orange
pin 4 blue/white
pin 5 white/blue
pin 6 orang/white
pin 7 white/brown
pin 8 brown/white

568-B (standard)
pin 1 white/orange
pin 2 orange/white
pin 3 white/green
pin 4 blue/white
pin 5 white/blue
pin 6 green/white
pin 7 white/brown
pin 8 brown/white

these are networking configurations for cat 5.

I haven't worked with rs-232 for a long time, but I believe that rs 232 is either straight (ie 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, etc) or cross-pinned: 4 wire - 1-4, 2-3, 3-2, 4-1; 6 wire 1-6, 2-5, 3-4, etc. and 8 wire 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5, etc.

I find no TIA/EIA 596B standard but I wonder where this came up. Lucent has a Galaxy Power System that has a digital communication interface between Galaxy RC and the 596B SMR rectifier. Is this where you need pinning? Can you provide more detail via e-mail.

IBM's own search engine on their own website finds nothing of a 596b. Are you certain that you have that right? Let me know if you find that it is something other than 596B

You might check out You might check out http://www.faqs.org/faqs/LANshttp://www.cables.com/tech.html.
or

They have good information on cabling, but nobody I've found yet knows about 596B on CAT5, even on foreign sights. The only 596b nomenclature that I find anywhere is in reference to AGP.

The only thing that I have is SDDI (Shielded Twisted-Pair Distributed Data Interface, IBM Type 1). Pin 1 is T+, pin 6 is T-, pin 5 is R+, pin 9 is R-. This is Fast Ethernet 802.14 (formerly 100-Base-X) and uses a DB-9 connector.

I hope this helps.
