CBT and Certification

I work in a niche industry and I need the ability to put together online testing and certification. Does anyone know of companies that can provide software that allows me to structure my own tests and record the results electronically?

The url for Smartforce, formerly CBT, is
http://channels.microsoft.com/train_cert/olic/partners/cbt.htm. They do NOT provide software for making your own exams. They give internet based certification training in MS products. MS FrontPage has a product: http://www.microsoft.com/Education/planning/online/score.htm for the Course and Test add in for Front Page 2k. For comlete service, tests posted online, psychometric reporting, etc., use http://www.certification.net – the prices are lower than you’d think and someone else does all the work.-

One of the best products I have ever used to produce and deliver all kinds of training materials, is TEST CONSTRUCTION SET. For what it does, it is LOW cost and very easy to use and very portable. It’s power is that all modules are easily mounted in lan, wan and even web environments, for use be any WINx systems. Contact information follows:

The leading company in delivering tools for CBT and testing metrics is Macromedia (www.Macromedia.com). They have several applications available, ranging from low-cost solutions (Pathware) to more full-featured products (Authorware Attain).
These applications are scalable, and the training and testing content can be delivered via CD, Intranet/ Internet, or LAN. Test results can be automatically scored, and certifications delivered, all with no user intervention.

Our college is currently using a product called __WEB CT__ to design online courses for a variety of curriculum including Technology classes. This product allows for a variety of options to be added into a class based upon the instructor/developer’s preference. Product information can be cound at http://www.webct.com/ Some of the features include: Quizzes. Simulations. Homework help. Tools. News. Academic discussions.
Another recent revision in the __NETg__ (National Education Training Group)software allows administrators to customize sections of predesigned courses. For example you can develop your own course with a few sections from NT 4.0, NT 2000, and Cisco, etc. for a full range fo topics. The product has been around fora while, but this customization option is new.
I hope you find this information helpful.

Hi Friend,
We seem to be in the same niche industry in the same position. In my research, I’ve found Click2learn.com’s Ingenium to be a great choice for both web-based training management and certification.

You can try http://www.brainbench.com.
Think apart from setting their own tests, they might be able to help you perform your own tests if you contact them.-

Most of the regular authoring Programs
Authorware, Toolbook, IAuthor offer testing with recordkeeping. A couple years ago a program called Quest was also available.
These are mostly CBT authoring pgms but depending upon the testing you are doing can fit right in (fail the test take this remedial training) I work for a defense contractor and we use Authorware exclusively for our F-14 Tomcat training. They also offer scheduling, lesson planning, outlines and the such. If I can be of any help let me know. acfttchr@aol.com-

Certainly the Brainbenches of the world are good solutions for testing but if you want control of the design of the test then you may want to look at BlackBoard.com. We teach online instructor led IT courses and use Bbd as our course platform. Ourinstructors develop online tests and quizzes that are scored immediately and recorded as part of the students overall grade. Another excellent self testing tool is MeasureUp.com. They are more off the shelf and less customizable but are excellent for cert exam prep.
