Check if CD works on another computer or try different disk

Try booting using the Windows 7 O/S disc when you turn the computer on
Steps:
1. Insert the O/S disc
2. Shut down the computer
3. Make sure CD/DVD is the first boot device in BIOS
4. When you turn the computer on, you will get the message “Press any key to boot from CD”. Keep Pressing the Space key. If you some files being loaded then the CD/ DVD drive is functional. If not then its the hardware gone bad

If it boots successfully. Escape the setup. Remove the CD. Restart your computer.

Use Windows troubleshooter to fix the issue.
If there is still an issue then it has to be with some firmware upgrade for the particular drive and you need to contact the manufacturer or get on the manufacturer’s website and download and install the firmware

Have you tried a Boot Disc

by oh smeg ·

In reply to cd/dvd drive windows 7

And see if that works?

If it doesn’t the drive has died and gone to Silicon Heaven, and if it does work it’s a corruption in the OS in use here namely 7. 😉

OK then you might like to try this first

Quite often when you run into Hardware Issues with Optical Drives and Windows you need to flash the Firmware of the drive. 😉

still says the same thing in device manager

must be OS corruption

Could try opening a different user account

by oh smeg ·

In reply to hooked up external cdrom

And see if it still will not working. It could be something as simple as a Corrupt User Account. 😉
