By jonsf1 ·
I am currently using 4x CD-Writer to made a disk to disk copy and after it completed, the CD-R cannot be play (is a VCD) and when I try to copy the *.dat file from the CD-R, an error message appear "Invalid MS-DOS Function" and sometimes the messageis "cyclic redundancy" or something like that. What will be the problem? Can it be my CD-Writer problem or the software problem? I'm using Adaptec 3.5c Please guide, I'm losing many CD-R

It could be a CDR problem, but many times I have seen this fixed by the software.

I personally love Nero by Ahead Software.
www.nero.com

You can download the software there, and they have a 30 day trial. That is the first thing I would do.

I have never copied a vcd before, but if you need any info check out gamecopyworld.com and subsequent links (I use that to get the info I need.)

The cycle redundancy error means it can not read it any more. Buy golden or silver cd's instead of green and blue once.

I haven't tried copying a VCD.
However, I have similar problems if I copy a disk with background applications running.

Try shutting down all of the programs in the system tray.

While it should not be a problem at 4x, more and more peers are recommending that for copying the CD and CD-RW drives be on different IDE channels.

One work around for this, is to copy the source CD onto your hard drive, and record the files that way.

It is also possible, that there is a form of copy protection on the VCD.

to master a vcd you need vcd master software just copying the cd will not work as vcds have some copy protection. if you have ezcd deluxe or platinum there is a vcd creator if not you could try golden hawk cdrwin which does a much better copy than ezcd copier. if you are using ezcd creator instead of copier you will not even be close. check cdrfaq.org
