cd-rw problem

By tiggergobounce420 ·
A few days ago my cd rw drive just stopped reading all disks. When I put in a disk it acts like it wants to read it, but it can't or it won't. I tried upgrading the drivers...but nothing. I opened the cpu and nothing looked wrong. I'm stumped, pleeeeease help me!!!!

Mmmm......could be DMA problem - have you checked the settings? Have you tried a head cleaner in the drive? Have you tried a different drive - it could be it's due for the dustbin....

If you have tried this drive in other machines, changed the data cable and so forth, then:

Burners go out faster than normal drives...

Goto www.newegg.com and pay $25.00 for a newer faster one.

good luck.

I thought Tiggers went "grrr"!!

1. If possible, try the CDRW in another PC. I had the same problem, paniced and bought another drive as I had to use it quickly. However, after I had done what I needed to do, I installed the drive in a friends PC and it worked properly. I found it was due to the fact that my table was not level.

2. If this does not work - try cleaning all your CD's with a specialised cleaner, and thry the CD's in anothher drive. If they don't read from another PC, your CDRW could be scratching them due to a fault)

3. NOT RECOMMENDED!! I have solved this problem a few years ago by thumping the top of the PC case. Although I don't recommend this and do not accept any blame - if you dare to try and it works it suggests that you have a loose connection somewhere.

what was happening on the computer before it stopped working. did some one load a new package, or new hardware, etc. try the drive in another system and see if it works, at this point. if it does then great but not then need to really see about this comtpuer, try a diffrent hard drive in this system and see if you can get the drive to work (that cuts out if it is hardware (Mb or power supply) or windows configuration. good luck.
