Changing NIC 1/2 duplex --> full-dupl

By mtsal-techrepublic ·
In Windows, I'm familiar with how to change the duplexing mode on a NIC. But, can't seem to locate where or how to change the duplexing mode from 1/2 to full-duplexing in Linux (RedHat9). Is anyone willing to share their knowledge on how to accomplish this task with RH 9? Thank you in advance.

Changing NIC 1/2 duplex --> full-dupl

Look for the file /etc/modules.conf

vi the file and look for similar entry like this

alias eth0 [XXXX]

Where [XXXX] is your nic module. Add an option entry below this line.

options [XXXX] full_duplex=1

This will force the nic to go tofull duplex rather than auto detect.

I originally entered and tested the following without full duplexing initiating:

alias eth0 e100 options=0x200

then removed the above line after testing it with no full duplexing kicking in and entered and tested the following line with the same results: no full duplexing

options e100 full_duplex=1

Here is the message received wheile restarting the network:

"e100: eth0 NIC Link is up 10mbps half duplex"

Could upstreaming be an issue here?

Try this option then

options e100 e100_speed_full_duplex=2
or
options e100 e100_speed_full_duplex=4

That's full duplex mode for 10 or 100 respectively. If that doesn't work .... check your network equipment.

All the other commands did work afterall. The 10/100 hardware hub wasn't doing its part and has since been replaced. Nonetheless, I tested the commands after replacing the hub and all worked as provided. Thanks for the pointers.
