changing resources in device manager

By alan_dancey ·
Although i log on as Local\administrator i am unable to change any of the resource settings in Device Manager\properties window.. This at the moment has prevented me from getting some hardware working due to minor conflicts with IRQ,s.
I am runningWindows 2000 using NTFS format, I have tried changing passwords and even reinstalling 2000 and using no password but i am still unable to get any control over changing device resources.

Regards, Alan

It may be you can't change settings for that piece of hardware. Make sure the "use automatic settings" is unchecked. See if you can change settings for com ports or something. If you are logging on as administrator and haven't messed with policies or the default account, i doubt it is permissions.

Thank You for the reply, i have tried most things you have suggested, biggest problem i have is every piece of hardware i check in resources is set to auto configuration and all check boxes are ghosted so i am unable to uncheck..

Cheers, Alan

Have you tried deleting all passwords and resetting your Admin login. Also you may just take out a card and move it to another slot. I know often times this worked with 98 when you couldn't adjust the IRQ's manually.
