Client PC locks up at a specific time daily?

By srichardson ·
Does any one have any answers as to what is causing this XP PC to lock up daily. It is connected to a MS Server 2003 SBS edition.
It is the only PC that locks up all others are fine.

Virus and Spyware scans are clear.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Overheating perhaps

by Magic Alex In reply to Client PC locks up at a s ...

My old desktop PC would crash every night around the same time, Initially i thought it was a program/service being triggered in the background at a certain time but i came to find out that the pc was overheating around the same time every night because i would get home from work at the same time every day and turn it on. Took off the CPU's heat sink/fan to find that the heat sink had been put on backwards. Worked fine ever since.
It's a long shot but if your client's machine is being turned on at around the same time every day you could be having a simlar issue.

Have you checked Event Logs?

Right click My Computer and select Manage.
Look in the Event Viewer Logs for Errors and Warnings. Double click on them to get more info on the event. Perhaps they will lead you in the right direction.

power

There is also the possiblity that a power problem could cause this. There is an old story about a computer (pre pc) that crashed at the exact same time every day. One day the operator was taking a smoke break while waiting for the crash. It crashed at the exact moment that the parking lot lights came on.

In a home it could be an air conditioner, or almost anything. It doesn't even have to be in your home, just nearby.
