Your dates and times will be wrong which means documents you create will have the wrong dates, your BIOS will start at factory settings, because your BIOS goes to factory settings your PC will need to detect yours hardrives each time it boots even if you boot to SETUP enter the BIOS and tell it what your HDDs are. Because the battery is dying this is what will happen, by the time your machine has done that your OS will be coming up it will not try to detect hardware that was installed by Windows, all will be fine within your OS, the only things that will be wrong in your OS will be the date and time.
Which can be bad with a machine that date and time stamps are important.

Hope this helps

It means that it is time to change the lithium coin cell on the motherboard.

If the battery goes dead, you will loose all of the BIOS settings including date and time.

The system should still function, just not at optimum performance.

The next time you boot the system, enter BIOS setup.
Scroll through the screens, and copy down all of the settings.
Exit with out saving changes.
Shut down the PC.
Open up the case and look for a 1" diameter "watch" battery.
Copy down the number on the battery (2032) and buy a new one. Grocery and hardware stores often have the best price.
Replace the battery.

Boot the system, and enter BIOS setup.
Adjust the settings on each screen as needed.
Save settings and exit.

That should take care of you for several years.

If your cmos is down it wont update your sytem date. This will affect especially when you where doing programming because most of the programs relies on the system date.
