Color Printing

By jmoody76 ·
I would like to make my printers print faster. The PDC is also my print server and I would like to take the burden off the PDC and let large jobs spool and print faster. Does any one know of new print server techonolgy or software that can do this.
Thanks

You don't specify what kind of color printers you have, but many of the newer generations of color lasers with imbedded controllers allow you to set the devices up to act as thier own print servers. If you do much color printing (hundreds of pages per month) it can be cost effective to step up to a large color device over ink jets. The cost per page of lasers has dropped pretty dramatically over the last two years. Most color lasers have onboard hard drives and through one means or another provide the ability to have users print directly to a queue published by the device itself. This cuts network traffic in half as the job moves directly from the workstation to the printer with no need to spool to your server at all. I support color devices from Canon, but Xerox, HP, Minolta, Ricoh, etc all have devices you may want to consider.
