Combine Records in MS Access

By n.smith326 ·
Greetings,

I've created a database for my office, but it needs some improvement. For each record in my database, there is the AutoNumber ID, and there is a unique subject ID for each person in this database. Sometimes, individuals are entered more than once w/ different IDs, but a little research on the end user's part reveals that the two records are actually the same person.

Is there any procedure that will allow an administrator to merge/combine records w/o losing the data? Better yet, w/o duplicating the data after the data has been merged?

Thanks for your help!

with some rules for the same.
If there is an externally enforced unique id, eg social security number then you can put some logic into the app itself.

If it's something like name, then you can only show potential duplications in a list and then provide a function to 'merge' the data.
