By kagny ·
I recently tried the compression utility on my music folder and the size was exactly the same after it was compressed as it was before it was compressed. i then tried it on othe files and folders and the size does not differ at all. does the utilitywork or am i doing something wrong?

Music files are already compressed so I am not surprised that you did not see any difference in size. I am not sure of what file types were contained in the other folders, but the compression utiliy does work. Are you sellecting to compress the sub folders as well?

Many file formats are compressed files to begin with. You usually cannot compress them further.
In fact, if you Zip compressed files with a program like WinZip, the zip file can actually be larger than the original file.

Compressed formats include:
MP3
JPG
GIF
ZIP
CAB

Many .exe files that are the installers for programs are actually self extracting Zip files, or use other forms of compression.
