Bad memory. Have you tried different memory?

Could be one of two thing mainly

1. As said before bad memory (one of the chips on the stick busted / overheated

2. you said that it stops midpoint if by that you mean at 8meg on a 16meg comp or at 16 on a 2meg comp then the second/forth depending on your memory configuration is the bad one - if you can beg/borrow/but/steal two (a matching pair) SIMMS then you could test this easily

3. I know I said two things but I just thought that if its DIMMS not SIMMS then take it all out and put each one back in one at a time. (into slot 0 don't forget)

first lets make sure the vga cord is plugged into the vga card securely, ok i knew it was, it is most likely the vga color card it has ram and it has been shocked or is bad , if the colors change or the blocks come up all over the screen its the vgacard ..

All the answers could be the problem. If they are turning red, or the memory is stopping at or around 16 MB count, go into the BIOS and check the setting for memory hole at 16 meg. Make sure that this is disabled.

Had the same problem with mine after installing a new vga board. I reseated the board and the problem went away.
