    Locked

    by mijo ·

I have an Alaris Web Cam, I disable it about 3 months ago due to someone misuseing it, I enable it and when I tried starting it, it caused my computer to reboot, So I tried running it again and the computer rebooted, I unistalled and reinstalled, still would restart, I also ran a virus scan to make sure there isn’t any viruses,

Havent come across such prob, but i saw that this webcam seems to be connecting to ur parallel port. If you have any printers installed on your LPT1, uninstall them and uninstall the webcam software. Restart the pc with the webcam connected. (U did not mention the OS u r using!) If the pc works normally, install the cam s/w and check if it works. Else we might need to dril down further.
      Cheers.

Forgot to mention what i was thinking while answering….what i feel is that the comp is expecting to send data on LPT1 and not receive from ther…hence this prob could occur! Lets see!

This is a chipset and USB driver problem. Uninstall the camera and download and install the drivers from the manufacturer. If its intel make sure to get the correct drivers. For VIA chipsets simply download the 4 in 1 driver and install that. Reloadthe camera making sure to follow the instructions on when to connect it. Normally sometime durring the software install as opposed to being connected when before the PC is booted.

I think there is an IRQ dispute.Just turn to the device manager and check out for any irq dispute.

Don’t ya just love the porn and security answer?

Please provide more inforamtion about the computer including operating system motherbaord, connected peripherals and such. Since the camera used to work there obviously has to be something different thats causing this problem. Had you added any other devices like USB printers, CD burners or even software previous to trying to reconnect the camera.

Your power supply may not be putting out enough to handle the load from the USB camera. I would try a larger power supply at least a 300 Watt. That’s a pretty cheap part to replace and its never a bad thing to have a stronger supply.

For Win9X delete the files wininit.ini and wininit.exe from the windows folder. Reboot to safe mode and run sfc.exe and restore the wininit.exe file from the original windows disk or folder where the cab files are stored.
