Computer searches for uninstalled driver

By esikkema ·
I had a Calcomp digitizer tablet connected to my computer. After I uninstalled and disconnected it every time I start my computer - blue screen w/ message "computer can't find the Calcomp driver hit return to continue", So I continue but it is annoying.
How do I remove the search for that driver?

From the Start menu go to Run and type in regedit under the HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE_USER/Software and right click and delete calcomp and its hardware, this way it will delete any references to Calcomp.Hope this helps

Better don't mess up with the registers if you don't have experience with that. Try installing the driver again and then uninstalling it. As a last resort, do the regedit stuff. The message it displays during boot-up is exactly the one you mentioned? -most certanly not. Typing the exact message displayed might help someone give you a more precise solution to that problem.

check the usual startup places, auto exec.bat, config.sys, win.ini., run ms config and see if its in the startup items there. Also try device manager to ensure it s not there. Failing that you'll have to trawl the registry for relevant items to delete or install it again and remove it again.

Well if the error message mentions a certain vxd file, that would make things easier.
The best thing to do is to edit the win.ini and the system.ini and search for the vxd from the blue screen, or for "calcomp", to edit those 2 files goto run and type "sysedit". If you can't locate the vxd file or the word calcomp there, then edit the registry (run regedit), and do a find on the exact name of the vxd file, or if there wasn't one, use "calcomp" and delete any keys that have anything to do withcalcomp.
Always backup the registry before deleteing keys. The registry is actually 2 files on your computer, "system.dat" and "user.dat", back those files up first.

Hi. Try this.. Reboot your computer and press F8 to get the boot menu. Select SafeMode and when you get to the desktop rightclick on My computer, go to properties and click on Device Manager. Find the driver in there. You may probably have ghost drivers too, click on it, one at a time (if more than one) and click on remove. After that go to shutdown and restart. It may work.
