computer shuts down

By dcgreen ·
My computer has been automatically shuting down while in diferent programs. It goes to the start up screen, and does a memory run test, and the bios will not come up. I had new memory put in but this did not solve the problem. Does any one have any idea? Also would reformating the hard drive possible help, or could it be the mother board? Thanks.

if it's a older compuer (>3 years, depends of the usage) it's the battery, change it).
Check if the pc is overheating, cpu or the air (try running it with the case open.
Else it's a motherboard problem.

Most likely source of the problem should be the battery or the Motherboard.
But you have said that you have added new memory to that. Did you, by any chance damage any of the circuit in the system while adding the memory chip?
Check this first as there might also be some loose contact somewhere causing the same.
