computer with a different motherboard

By Geoff59 ·
I messed up the BIOS update on my VTech socket 7 motherboard running Windows ME so I have now bought another motherboard [socket 7 Biostar]. After changing all the components can I just boot up and then install the revelant drivers for the new motherboard assuming it will find all the components or do I need to do a re-install of Win. ME first.

With Windows Me, you should be able to boot up and go.

Is the chip-set on the new motherboard from a different manufacture?

If so, then you may end up in safe mode the first time you boot.

In this situation, I do recommend that you follow up with a registry cleaner after getting the drivers taken care of.
Since you were not able to properly remove the old device drivers, there may be a few latent registry keys that could cause problems.
