    Computer Won’t Power UP/Down Properly

    Locked

    by shanlon ·

    Hey All,

My computer has some major power issues. If it is plugged in, the power turns on. Resulting in the power supply, processor and case fans all turning on (and the power LED being lit). However, nothing further happens. I can’t here the hard drives spinning and there is no attempt to read the optical drives (though I can open them). Also, I can not shut off the power using the power button, only unplugging works. I think it is likely the mother board, but I’m not sure. Any thoughts? thanks for the help.

It is more likely that your Power button has died …

…and rigour mortis has set in while in the ‘ON’ position.

If you have a ‘Reset’ button you could swap them over (if you are comfortable delving into computer innards).

Due to your turning the computer on at the mains outlet, the ‘power sequence’ is not happening in the correct order. This is preventing your hardware from initiating in the proper order also.

I suggest a quick trip to a computer technician. It is a simple, and should be, relatively painless experience for your wallet.
