Configuring Basic Presence in Unified Communications Manager 7

Unified Communications Manager 7 comes integrated with Basic Presence and If I am not mistaken it comes with versions of Unified Communications Manager 6 and UP.
The purpose of using Basic presence in Unified Communications Manager is that with this feature a user can monitor another users basic availability, that is, device status such as on-hook, off-hook, and unregistered.
This feature can be use when an IP Phone user wants to be able to monitor certain extensions from his device.
This document involves Unified Communications Manager 7, a Cisco IP Phone 7945G and a Cisco IP Phone 7961G both loaded with a SIP firmware.
The Cisco IP Phone 7945G have an extension assigned of 0629
The Cisco IP Phone 7961G have an extension assigned of 0621
This instructions will guide you to configured the Cisco IP phone 7945G to monitor the extension belonging to the Cisco 7961G configured with extension 0621
Step 1
While in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration page, go to the System TAB
-Select Enterprise Parameters
-Select the BLF For Call Lists link and Select Enabled
-Click Save
-Step 2
While in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration page, go to the Device TAB
-Select Device
-Select the Device Settings
-Navigate to and Select the Phone Button Template TAB
-In my case I will be creating a new Phone Button Template for my Cisco 7945G loaded with a SIP firmware based of the ?Standard 7945 SIP? phone button template, so I will find and click on the ?Standard 7945 SIP? phone button template, then I will click the Copy button and give it a new name such as Standard 7945 SIP_BP, then because a Cisco IP Phone 7945G can only handle 2 lines, hence it only has 2 phone buttons, so I can only modify the button number 2 and I then I will select Speed Dial BLF followed by a click on the Save button.

Step 3
While in the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration page, go to the Device TAB
-Select the Phone Tab
-You can either proceed to add a new phone or select an existing Phone (In my case I already have an IP phone so all I will do is select the desired IP Phone on which I want to add the basic presence feature.
-Once on the IP Phone Global Configuration Select the appropriate SUBSCRIBE Calling Search Space for this device, click the save button.
-While in the global configuration of the IP phone, and in the association Information side, proceed to select and click the BLF icon, a new web page will open here you will enter the following info.
-Destination
[The extension of the user that you want to monitor, in this case 0621]
-Directory Number
[N/A]
-Label
[Brief description of the Phone Button, such as Ext Mon 0621]
-Label ASCII
Same as the Label description.
Click the Save Button followed by the close button, the phone will restart with newly phone button configured. Now whenever the extension 0621 goes of hook or is busy, the newly created phone button in the Cisco IP Phone 7945G will light up as well the icon will reflect the new status of extension 0621.
