connect printers via samba and kix

By Roemer ·
Hey Volk,

At the moment I'am useing NT 4 as a printserver and kix32 as the logonscript to map shares and printers on NT clients.

For the future I will use Suse Linux 7.0 and samba 2.0.7 for printing. Now I have the problem that kix32 isn't able to connect to printers, shared by samba. If I connect the printer as a new printer in the printingenvironment than the connection is fine.
Is anyone in the same situation and may help me?

best regards

There isn't much to go on here but I'll try and lay it out and see if this helps you.

Where is the samba setting getting it's acl from. Does it come from an DOMAIN PDC, a SERVER, or is it set to USER. If it is domain I find placing in the /etc/hosts file the information for the pdc name and ip to help as well as when the security is set to server. Also when in these two modes you need to make sure that the password auth is in a mode that your NT servers can understand which will be encrypted or plain text.

If this is all copasthetic on your system the only other thing I can think of is tokening. It may be that the software you are using is passing a token tat is not understood by the smb server. The only way I can think of around that would be to use a small VB script to manualy connect and disconnect printers based off parameters set in the logon script.

I am also under the impression you are running kixtart let me know if I'm wrong or if you need moer info on any of the other areas but this should be a good roadmap for you to solving your problem.
