Connect stereo system to computer

By ahynek ·
How do I connect my stereo system to my computer to copy older LP records? I do not know where to plug in the cable in the stereo system? I have a NERO Burner CD-R on my computer and comes with instructions saying where to plug in the cable on the computer and all it says to plug in to the stereo but where? My computer is running on XP.

You want to connect from tape out on your stereo to line-in on the sound card.

The quality of the A/D converter on your sound card will have a MAJOR impact on the quality of the end product. The typical 'game' sound card does NOT have a very good A/D circuit.

The quality of the turntable, cartridge, and phone pre-amp also affect the recording quality.
With good records, and quality playback equipment, your CD recordings can be equal or better than purchased CDs.

I went to web site www.delback.co.uk/lp-cdr.htm and I got an answer there. My stereo system is German built so I have to get a phono preamplifier for my system, or else purchase a new stereo system.

The connections you are looking for are on the same catrd connection as your speakers (assuming) you have movable external speakers. You should see at least 3 minijacks, one is microphone, one is speaker out and the other is line in. Most stereos have line out and they are usually RCA type Jacks. Be sure not to hookup your stereo speaker connections to the sound. Go to RadioShack and get an adapter plug to go from two RCA (male type) on one end to one Mini-pin Stereo (male)on the other. Connectthe RCA males to the Left and right Line-out, one is red -right channel and the other is usually white left-channel, then take the ministereo jack and connect to line in. Bring up the little speaker usually shown on bottom of the system tray on the desktop screen to adjust the line and speakervolume. Remember you asked for connections not details of recording that's to exhaustive of a subject for here. Best of luck

Follow up: Oh yeah, the sound card connections on the computer are on the back of the computer case. Also find out what type of built in sound chip or add on sound card you have and go to their company web sight, For more Technical assistance.
