Boot to Command prompt and run c:\fdisk /MBR. That should reset your MBR. If this doesn't help there is something more going on, come on back.

PS have you tried reflashing the latest BIOS, this helps in a small number of cases.

the dos network drivers are in the network clients folder under tools (i think) on the nt server installation cd do you have this?. otherwise look for dos drivers on your network interface card manufactors website. like, www.3com.com.
you have to do what you want to ghost across the network. perhaps the articles on how to do that at www.symantec.com might help also.
i will google dos network boot disk and see if i can find you better instructions. if you happen to have ghost corporate you can use their boot disk wizard...

i wonder if you could get your hands on a win98 startup disk and F8 then pick boot with network support?

Its a win98 workstation that I am trying to recover, fdisk /mbr did not work, however I can access the drive with a win98 boot disk. I wanted to load network drivers, but I dont know the process to do this, then I could back up data files, just in case I trash the drive trying to re-install

well, check your bios anti-virus settings...
i didn't say you wanted to ghost your computer, i said the process is the same for creating a network boot disk for use with ghost and that there are several interesting articles about it at symantec. sigh.there is good article here on techrepublic about network boot disks.

here is websites excerpted from above where you can download images of boot disks. good starting point. good luck.

1.Check this URL for a boot diskette with network support:
http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/network/niclist

2.Why you don't put the HDD as slave on other computer and save the data?

If I understand correctly the main issue is to backup the datafiles from the corrupted drive. Even easier than to look for networking, is to install the corrupt drive as "slave" in a working PC.
(usually the latest drives are "cable set" to master or slave, but you can force that through the pins (you should see instructuions on the drive on how to put the cap))
