Connecting Cable modem to Wireless router...

By naf23 ·
I am a tech newbie and I need some assistance. I have a Scientific Atlanta DPC2203C cable modem through Bright House. I have connected it to my Linksys WTR54G wireless router so that I can use my wireless capabilities of my laptop. I can get the internet with no problem on my laptop, but when I connect, it says my connection is not secure. When I try to log on to the Linksys router to secure it, it asks for a user name and password. I know that I skip over the user name and type in "admin" for the password. However, it never gets past this screen and accepts my password. I've tried a hard reset of the router and nothing works. Any ideas as to what I should try next? Thanks in advance.

Have you tried accessing it from another computer?

When I do things like this

I always use a Wired Connection to make the changes to the Router.

I have yet to find a reliable way to Setup any WiFi Device without using a Wired Connection initially.

Your router will never be secure unless you change the default username and password, as well as enabling the wireless encryption and changing the default encryption key.

Definitely try doing setup over a wired connection, as suggested by OH Smeg.
