Connections Windows NT Server 4.0

By cmando ·
In the past few months I have had a few problems with my NT 4.0 servers:
1. When accessing user manager for domains the following error: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. (I reboot the server and then it works)
2. Another NT 4.0 Server that 8 people access is returning the following error message: to many users on this remote computer. (It is not remote) Again, a reboot and all is fine.
Any ideas? Thanks
Cindy

For the first server I would check and see if the machine needs more ram. Check and see if there is enough hard drive space.

For the second if it is has adequate amounts of the above i would check to see if it is a licensing issue.

One the first server - make sure that: 1) you have adequate space configured for your paging file and registry - these settings can be found and/or edited by right-clicking My Computer and going to the Performance tab. The paging file should be about 1.5 times your RAM (more if you have other server apps running like Exchange or SQL, less if it's just a basic file server, but not less than RAM + 12MB). And 2) Make sure your servers (both of them) are on the latest service pack - SP6a for NT; load it if not, and you could even try re-loading it is it's already installed.

On the second server - check to be sure there is not a shared resource (folder) on the server that has a limit to the maximum number of concurrent connections. This is on the Sharing tab - maximum connections, in the Properties of the folder.

Hope this helps!
