CORRUPT WINDOWS XP PROFILE

By alex_mwalusaka ·
I HAD MOUNTED ANOTHER HARD DRIVE (ON WINDOWS 98) ON A MACHINE RUNNING ON WINDOWS XP. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WAS A VIRUS (BLEBLA) ON THE SYSTEM WHICH LOCKED THE ADMINISTRATOR PROFILE ON THE XP MACHINE. ALL MY DATA IS LOCKED UP IN THIS PROFILE.

ON REBOOTING IT SAYS THAT THIS PROFILE IS CORRUPT
AND IS LOGGING ME ON A TEMPORAL PROFILE.

HOW CAN I GET AROUND THIS PROBLEM. ALL MY WORK IS THERE.

ALEX

Hi

Invest in a professional antivirus and firewall solution. Then, after updating the antivirus product, run it to remove the virus.

Good luck

Hi again

In that case you need to create a new profile and copy your data to it.

See here for full instructions

Good luck

I would think that if you can logon with the admin user, although a temporary profile, you should still have the needed access to the old admin profile directories to copy your data out to a new location.

This may or may not allow you to access the folders (depending on the virus you have)

I wish you luck..

As the link Blackcurrant suggested ( make another account with administrator permissions you may be able to get the required files this way by turning off simple file "sharing" and set permissions to everyone. Go here for instructions on how to turn off "simple file sharing"

once you have successfully got your files back I would copy them oout of the system and do a low level format of your drive and reinstall windows, just to be sure you have a clean system again.

first log on using administrator, create a new user in computer management and make him the member of administrator. and disable the default administrator profile in users. and log on again
