Crystal ActiveX Viewer

By luv2bike2 ·
I had to rebuild a computer system for a user and now when I test everything out to make sure everything is working for the user, I am getting this error message when I try to open up a report in the Crystal Report Viewer.

"The Cyrstal ActiveX Viewer is unable to create it's resource object"
along with the yellow bar up at the top of the report screen that says
"This website wants to run the following add-on "Crystal Web Reports broker" from the "Seagate software". if you trust the website and the add-on and want to run, click here..."
i can not click there because of the popup that says "the Crystal ActiveX View....." it keeps on poping up everytime i click OK.

I can go on my computer and i have not problem.
I have no clue as to what to do to correct this problem.

i just rebuilt the computer again and this time all i installed was XP SP2 and Office 2003, updated the system with all the MS updates and i still get the error messages.
I also went into Manage Add-ons and saw that the crystal report viewer dll is in the section of downloaded ActiveX Controls and in the Add-on that have been used by Internet Explorer. In both sections Crystal Report Viewer is ENABLED. so i am realy confused here.

any assistance will be great.
Thanks in advance!

could be

by Dr Dij In reply to Crystal ActiveX Viewer

a permissions thing if it needs to create temp files on your local drive

is this a third party crystal viewer or one by biz obj?

in either case you might be able to get more help for the exact error message on the corresponding website.

click on the .dll or exe and click on properties to see who wrote it.

no luck

by luv2bike2 In reply to could be

i am logging on to the computer as the domain administrator and i still receive those error messages.

the software is from Seagate Software and i have gone to their website for assistance however no luck there as well.

i did a search on google, yahoo, msn for the error message and guess what... no luck there either.

i am going to rebuild the system one more time and before i install ie 7 i am going to see if i get those messages with ie 6.

Thank you for your suggestions. they are greatly appreciated!

Try to manually register the files

by IC-IT In reply to no luck

From the Run line type
regsvr32 Crviewer.dll
regsvr32 Swebrs.dll
regsvr32 Sviewhlp.dll
You may need to put the entire path in which should be close to
c:\windows\system32\xxxx.dll
editted to add; you may have to reboot after this.

I think you have to change the security settings of IE

by robo_dev In reply to Crystal ActiveX Viewer

to trust unsigned active-x controls.

Alternately, it helps to COMPLETELY deinstall and unregister the crystal plug-in and download/install a fresh copy on the workstation.

Make sure you have the correct version of the viewer for the server app you're trying to use, or that will cause problems.

Reinstalled OS

by luv2bike2 In reply to I think you have to chang ...

What i have done now is started from the beginning:
format the hard drive
installed XP and MS OFFICE 2003
installed all MS updates including IE 7
i tried to go into the report and i still received the error messages.
So i decided to uninstall IE 7 to see if i receive the errror messages with IE 6.
I was able to get the report,it did ask me to install the Crystal ActiveX report viewer and i did.
With that done, i figured i would reinstall IE 7, however once i went back into the report section i received those same error messages.
Something, of course is not right with IE 7 on this system, again all that is on the computer is XP SP2 and Office 2003 (with their updates).
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for all of your previous suggestions.

Did you disable the pop blocker during the active x installation?

the crystal report viewer is unable to create its resource objects

by PalaniDear In reply to Crystal ActiveX Viewer

Try this and it worked for me.

1. Goto IIS, select the virtual directory CrystalReportViewers115, properties, Configuration (In Virtual Directory Tab)

2. In App Mappings tab, find the extentions .CRI, .CSP, .CWR and .RPT and see what executable path they have. If they are blank, Press Edit.

3. Select the application path as "C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\aspnet_isapi.dll".

4. Repeat the above for all 4 extensions. Restart IIS.

5. Now when you try to open the ActiveX Report Viewer, it will prompt you to download the viewer without the error message.

Hope this helps.
