    Dammit.

Somebody post something you can sink your teeth into.

Nobody does, and soon, I will.

You don’t want that. I’ll earn me a bazillion negative votes. That is, if you can overcome it with the tepid and the cautious and the positive.

      Well, you know me.

      by seanferd ·

      In reply to Dammit.

I may drop in to point out complete failures of logic and evidence (or reading comprehension), then fade out.

I don’t know what makes for an interesting discussion here any more. I’ll say this is due to, roughly, one half of TR changing (not just the site mechanics, but the community), and one half of me just having a “f it, not worth the trouble” attitude.

Some folks are still turning out some damn fine articles and comments, but I don’t always have anything to add. Which is why I still use article votes as well as the new comment votes – so I’m not just saying, “Yeah, what she said” or “Great article” all the time.

So, what would you sink your teeth into? Anyone want to fight over media coverage of floods (and snakes, for whatever effin’ reason) and stupid politicians and people who apparently forgot they were using land in a bought-and-paid-for floodway (for eighty years) after enjoying ridiculously subsidized flood free conditions until now?

That subject may whip some people into a froth. But I can’t be certain. Or, we can throw down the ever-popular threat of bringing back “Evolution is a lie” and start a new thread.

Maybe if Jay starts submitting articles again, we will find available a haystack of needles furnished with a thousand points of contention.

          by charliespencer ·

          In reply to Irrelevance

You’re swimming upstream against two dominant TR currents.

One is that there is no concept of ‘irrelevance’ here. By long-standing tradition, discussions are allowed to wander off-topic in whatever direction the participants want to take them.

The second is that santee’s comments almost always APPEAR to be irrelevant. Check Amazon for the ‘santee to English’ translation guide, or the popular ‘santeewelding for Dummies’ 2-volume set.

          by rayfoxxe ·

          In reply to Formal English

We are all free to have our freedom of speech whether it is by voice or by text. We can speak things we want, the way we want, and whenever we want as long as we abide by the rules and etiquettes of society. But this place here, we are free to speak whatever we wish just as long as it doesn’t go over bounds from the rules and regulations. Now sir, do you think this breaks away from those bounds? Is strict grammar really needed here? Sure we’re all professional here, but we’re not always going to act like that, we should loosen up sometimes. Besides, this is the Water Cooler, chill out!

Anyway; this whole thread was marked from the start: The great white shark says: “I need to shed some teeth already! Somebody throw in a carcass!”

Neither contributes anything of value. Both contribute to the demise of this Web site. I have zero respect or consideration for either. People like you are the reason I no longer engage in discussions at this Web site. After ten years, the jesters finally took over – and you are the jesters. But, one thing is for sure, I do not thing that I am a self-defined legend. Nor do I want to be like that. I just want to peacefully co-exist with people and do things I wanna do with the freedom of choice and way. And what did I do wrong anyway? I seriously don’t know and I wanna find out what. And this place is still a great forum yah know, it’s the reason why I joined TR, most of the IT I hear about here are the best and I admire those people. I think you need to be more civil, Santee. One-liner or one word put downs are just shallow sniping, insulting and nothing more. This was once an intelligent discussion forum and I’d like to see it go back to that, but if all you’re going to do is take pot shots at people, I don’t see how that can happen.

Go ahead Santee, post a “sink your teeth into” discussion and lets see what you got.

Your, “some pizazz”, was limp-wristed, American Voter; not at all befitting our Max.

We have a saying in Denmark: when the crib is empty, the horses are bitten.
Bear in mind that a crib was for feeding livestock, before baby Jesus took a nap in one.
When the feed’s out, the horses start biting each other.

Let’s not go there, shall we? Or if we do, let’s do in conscious fashion, with some entertainment value and with a basic awareness of what the _fuck we’re doing.

We’re short on sycophants, lately – they’re all busy on the main discussion pages, voting down the uncomfortable and Liking the pointless.

Jest aside, Max has a role to play here. If he’s AWOL, we’ll have to hunt him down. Which could get tricky if he slinks away into the mountains.

Max: This place is in a bad state because too many people cut and run. You don’t have to like it all, and I know nobody can, but if we all just do a little of what we used to, this place can be at least bearable – until hopefully some of the technical shortcomings are ironed out.

You can only hit someone with a verbal 2×4 if they’ve put themselves on the playing field.

I’ve never claimed to be unbiased. I’ll give you $100 if you can point to a message in which I did.

To the contrary. I’m dripping with bias. But a difference between me and other people is that I proudly admit my biases. And I tell you what they are. And I support and defend them with facts and reason. Everyone has their biases – as I’ve often said. Only those who struggle to support them, however, claim otherwise.

In reply to Hey, no harm in trying?

is to your local reputation. You’re coming across as a total phony.

TR is populated primarily with IT professionals. You may not have figured it out by now, but acting at least semi-professional is going to get you a lot farther here than acting like something 4chan spit up. Tone it down for a while and quit trying to attract attention; maybe even lurk without posting for a couple of weeks. That will give you a feel for the community here and the mannerisms of the more active members. That will allow you to see whose opinion you value and whose you decide to ignore. Try being on your best manners and develop a couple of relationships before letting your hair down.

Oh, and lose the cutesy-poo ‘l33t’ typings and insertions. You’ll make a much better impression here if you stick to standard English.

        • #2893593

In reply to The only harm

Welcome. At the very least you have staying power. How else would you learn what we mean? And how else would we learn what you mean?

Not being a seagull is worth something. I also hope you’ll save the energy you spend on inserts and l33t… you see, most people here only use l33t as a visual marker of “this here what I write now is not what I think is correct, it is a wild exaggeration of what I think a complete nincompoop might say”… so they might be very confused about what you’re trying to say, and won’t appreciate it when they figure it out.
