Database e-commerce

By pe_mo ·
I have a client who approached me the other day and wanted to talk to me about an idea he had. He wanted to set-up online business where he would make reservations online. He asked me how to aproach this. I was thinking that I would need to set-up an SQLserver which would host the access database and then set-up whole bunch of webpages that would allow the webpages talk to the database server.
Do i have the right idea here? Or can somebody think of a better way of doing this? I am not too familiar withdatabase and their connectivity through webpages.
Thank you very much.

I am the Principal Engineer at my company. We have developed and deployed an internet based reservation system. There are many factors that determine your architecture. You need to think about database size, desired performance, transfer rates toand from the database, whether you need to do ecommerce, general security, and several other issues like these. The basic architecture that you have suggested will work fine. The goal is to keep every piece very modular so that you can change pieces in and out when you need to adapt to new business conditions.
