DDNS problem on Windows2000

By ultrabobson ·
Hi all guru, thanks for your help in advance! W2000 is a new beast to me! And hope you could help.

The story is as below:
###########################
I just setup a machine acting as single
domain controller in the a domain ). The DC
doesn't have DNS server installed on it (as MS recommended) nor any
internal DNS server. WINS is installed. Since the setup, the DC can let all servers log into the domain.

But I am worry about some errors which appears so many in System log. They are all related dns issues (ID 5775, 5774 with
source Netlogon). The error says "Registration of the DNS record
'_kerberos.udp.kolsc4.kanaonlene.com . 600 IN SRV 0 100 88 x.x.com' failed with the following error: DNS server unable to interpret format."
############
So my question is... Is it ok to have a w2000 domain running wihtout DNS server installed while WINS are running on the server? Or any opionions that someone seen this before, please provide.

I really appreciate your ideas inadvance.

In my opinion Windows 2000 practically requires DNS or to be precise DDNS, so if you install and configure DDNS, all these errors will disappear.

I don't have an answer, I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I've spent a week trying to figure out the exact same system log errors. No Microsoft KB articles address it, the ID numbers for the errors are not listed anywhere, I've searched 15 different search engines with the phrase "DNS Server unable" with no luck. I don't have WINS on my Win2K server, but I am getting DNS from an ISP, so DNS on the server isn't important to me.
