default domain selection

By TechSerf ·
After joining an XP machine to a 2003 domain (or any domain), is there a way to have it default to DOMAINNAME, rather than 123MYPC(ThisComputer)?

With large desktop rollouts, this would be handy.

thx

Hi,
The default is dictated by by a registry setting -
hklm\software\microsoft\windowsnt\winlogon
"DefaultDomainName"

If you are rolling out via an automated build that runs scripts to install software and configure the system then you can change this value during that process (if you are using autologons with the local admin account as part of the post install config remember not to change it until after the autologons are complete, otherwise they will fail).
