Default Windows XP boot

By Aakash Shah ·
Whenever I start my computer. I get a boot menu asking me whether I want to start Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Windows XP Professional. I would like to start Windows XP Professional automatically without my choosing Windows XP.

Thanks

Right Click on My computer and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab then Settings in Startup and Recovery.

In system startup it will allow you to set the default operating sytem that is loaded - set this to Windows XP Professional, then set the Time to display list of Operating Systems to, say, 5 seconds.

This gives you a chance to do something at the boot menu if you actually want to, but isn't too long that you fall asleep waiting for XP to start loading.

This way, it will showthe boot menu for 5 seconds, then continue loading XP.

Hope this helps.

If the above fails to help... then check your boot.ini in the root of c:

It should be similar to the below.

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

If you have more in boot.ini,
Then edit the "default" line so that it matches the WinXP Professional line up to the equals sign...

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS

The numbers in multi... etc. DO NOT CHANGE == just edit the default to match your Windows XP boot line as above. My line 3 and line 5 are what sets the default boot os.
