Deleted Emails Reappearing

Hi,

Using exchange on SBS 2003.

All users are experiencing the occourance of emails that have been deleted reappearing. This appears to be random in that not all emails that are deleted reappear. Just a msall selection every week or few days.

It?s simple. Delete with Shift+Del keys, or delete even from Deleted Items.

Set their Outlook settings to empty the deleted items folder when they close the program.

I think, if you empty the deleted items folder that sould solve the problems.

While deleting the items from the delete folder or using the shift key when deleting emails may be a work around, Its not a solution. Is this a known issue (I have seen references to it on other sites)? Is there a fix/solution or are we restricted to a work around?

I’ll bump up the points in case somebody has a solution.

I am having the same problem using Windows XP Pro and Office XP 2003 in a small office workgroup network (6 workstations). I have setup outlook to delete upon exit but still the deleted emails return randomly. Anyone have an answer for this one, any help appreciated.

Sounds like cached mode / sync mode Outlook with periodic losses of exchange service. While the users is not connected to the exchange server (or no service exists)user deletes e-mail.

User conncets or gets abck serive only to find e-mail still resides on live mail store and so it returns!

I know little about servers – but I have heard of sync problems between user PC’s and servers, especially if you are working offline, delete messages, then sign online later. For lack of a better way to put it, the pc/server mix of data in Outlook gets confused.
In other words, make changes of permanence in Outlook only while online!
I would not ever write emails offline with the intent of sending them online later. But that is just something I do.

I can’t remember the exact fix we did for this, we did it from the client side and ran the command from the RUN line “oulook.exe /clear profile” (withouth the “”) . I believe that fixed the issue.

See if there is a pattern to it. For example, I usually experience it when, I try to delete a mail before the entire page downloads completely. If data transfer is happening and I attempt to delete a mail, then it cannot be deleted on some e-mail accounts. Depends on the scripting I suppose.
