Deletion of a stranded partition

By polickoski ·
We had a remote site with a server that hosted the master replica of that partition. Personnel at the site took down the server and disposed of it. How do I delete the partition without any access tot he master replica?

Novell has a TID on their web site that addresses this. You need to treat the disposed server as if it were a crashed server. The TID is 2908056 and it is called "Removing a crashed server from the NDS tree".

Go to http://support.novell.com/servlet/Knowledgebase and type in the TID number "2908056", select NDS and Netware and you should get the info you need.

Good luck....

Novell TID#2908056 is a good place to start. However in brief this is what I did in a similar situation. We promoted a R/W replica to maser. Then in NDS manager I deleted the server object represinting the crashed server. After about an hour I ran DSREPAIR to insure that the replica was deleted. Everything was fine, except the server Object still existed in NDadmid. I had to delete it from NWadmin as well.

If you load DSRepair with the "-a" switch on a server that holds a R/W of the partition in question, it will let you change the R/W to a Master. Then you can go into NDS Manager32 and delete the server object that no longer exists. You can delete it's volumes in NW Admin32.

There's a patch for this, on Microsoft's site.
