Dell D830 BIOS problem

By chonert ·
I'm working on my friend's dell d830 and when trying to update the bios, found that the system info incorrectly shows it as a precision m4300 with a completely different service tag number. Not sure how this got changed, but I have replaced the HD due to a virus and the inability to reload windows XP on it. Any suggestions on how to correct this?

What type of HDD is this and what are you attempting to load XP from?

If it's a SATA Drive and you are using a M$ Branded OEM install Disc the SATA Drive will not be present and you need to either press the F6 Key and insert a floppy with the SATA Driver copied to it's root or make a Slipstreamed Install Disc with something like nLite available free here

If you're going to use nLite make sure to read the instructions on their Web Site here though.

They can send you the ASSET utility that will update your asset code. Or you can download the BIOS update utility from http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=2684&l=en&s=pub&SystemID=LATITUDE%20D830&os=WW1&osl=en
