Dell Servers amd workstations

By pmnettis ·
We are considering Dell computers for our servers that include san's and standalone member servers running win 2000 (60 servers in all)
the desktops 700 plus will be running xp professional.

I cam from a long line of compaq, Hp and IBM productsfrom the last 20 years and wondering if I should go with dell's. Dell seems to undercut every price i got from competitors.
Price is one thing but performance and reliability is my main concern. We keep out pc's over 5 years and more before a refresh happens. I still have hp P90's on the floor.
does Dell still have its little quirks and problems like before. Desktop loads are all ghosted and ws are locked down heavily.
Where can I find know problems with manufactures like dell running ios specific to the manufacturer?

Our company has been using Dell PowerEdge servers and standalones for quite sometime and are extremely happy with Dell's service and support. We have even enrolled in the self-maintainer program that Dell offers. Dell also has great online support (premiersupport.dell.com) for group access and support. One thing that has kept us with Dell is the support and service. Good luck on your decision.

We use Poweredge servers, Precision workstations and Optiplex desktops. As you heard before "You get for what you pay for" all of are servers and workstations have been pretty good for us here, as for the desktops they are ok. I can tell you this when it comes to support on the server and workstation side it's great. On the desktop side it's ok. If I had to decide today I'd stay with Dell and keep in mind there is no perfict computer company and your relation is key.

PC World Magazine has been doing annual surveys of customer satisfaction and vendor quality for numerous years. You can check out the 2002 survey at:

(Remove any embedded spaces from the URL)

Dell has consistantly come out at or near the top of these surveys. The survey rates vendors in numerous areas, including quality, support, and customer satisfaction.

I personnaly have been buying Dells for my company for almost 5 years. I have never had a machine fail straight from the box. I have had 2 power supplies fail. Other than that the Dells have functioned flawlessly (software is obviously an entire different issue).

Hope this helps
