Deployment of Systems Management Server

By Sapinto ·
Does anyone have a quck guide on how to deploy Systems Management Server 2003. I've been trying to deploy it on a machine running Windows 2000 Server with SQL Server 7.0 sp4. However, I fail to finish the installation with the message either I should run SQL 7.0 with sp3 or higher, or the account 'server'\sms service does not have log on as service rights. i have the deployment guide from the microsoft website but thats too vague and doesn't help much.

Note you can get both books together on the second link and save some bucks.

OK I may be able to help here. Have you installed any POST SQL SP3 hot fixes or roll ups. Also have you installed the SQL Reporting program native or SP1. I have found that the SMS, MOM and other apps that do the preq checking, get confused if there is anything newer in SQL. For instance, it wants SQL Service pack 3 and all subrevs. Nothing Higher, MUST BE SP3. This is just a hunch so good luck.
