desktop connection

By bobmarleytavern ·
we have a wireless router at home that runs off a DSL and have a desktop pc and laptop connected to it. i haven't been able to connect to my favorite chatsite with the desktop but can connect with the laptop. after logging into the chat site with desktop, it goes to next page that says: digichat is loading...please wait. but then it just hangs there as tho the site is unavailable or somehow blocked. there is no message that site is full. any suggestions on what might be causing this or if some settings need to be changed in order to access site?

Firewall?

by SynapsE_z In reply to desktop connection

My first impulse is that it is being blocked by your firewall so make sure it is not blcked. You can do so by going to Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall and check that your program is allowed.

Guess #2: If the site is launched from Internet Explorer then maybe your security setting is too high for that site. You can added to the safe list by: Clicking tools, Internet Options, Security, Trusted Sites and adding your chat site to it if you trust it.

more stuff to try

I would make sure that you have java installed and that it is up to date, also if you don't already have internet explorer 7 get it now.
I suspect the site you are trying to access uses add ons that you either don't have or they are disabled

thnx - more stuff to try

thnx. i have internet explorer 7 and java version 1.6.0_3

also i checked the security and have it listed as a trusted site.

checked the firewall and it's there as an allowed site.

for some reason i'm thinking it must have something to do with the router or dsl but have no ability to confirm/diagnose that.

so i'm feeling stuck. i even tried doing a system restore back until 1/24 when i know i was able to access the chat site, but pc won't let me do it.

any other suggestions?

Even more stuff

Restore internet explorer to its default state and disable all the add ins. Then try your site again
If you really want to do a system restore to an earlier date you will need to disable your internet security first
BTW if you had a proble with your router or DSL connection you would have no access at all to the internet

Site?

by seanferd In reply to firewall?

Perhaps the chat site you are connecting to has problems. Among other things, the site may have a service plan that has run out. Can you contact the website that the chat is hosted on?

site

by bobmarleytavern In reply to Site?

i've connected to the site recently using my wife's laptop which is in the next room. for some reason the desktop pc lets me log in and just hangs there as tho site is unavailable. i even tried making my advanced settings in internet tools the same as those on the laptop & it still won't let me in. usually there's some sign that applet has started - even if site is full but i'm not even getting that response. it's very frustrating.
