Locked

Desktop Lockdown XP

By vmichenzi ·
Does anybody have any recommendations for software to lock down users pc's so that they cannot add software,toolbars, smiley faces for Outlook, etc. Also be able to remove them from the Local Admin and Power users but still let them be able to add a local printer if need be.

Group policies?

Start -> Run -> gpedit.msc

Group policy console allows you to set all sorts of computer and user policies...you must read about GPO (Group Policy Objects) prior to using them.

BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT HOW YOU APPLY COMPUTER POLICY, YOU WILL, IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, APPLY POLICY TO YOUR ADMINISTRATIVE ACCOUNT AND SCREW YOURSELF OUT OF BEING ABLE TO FIX ANYTHING.

Take a look at Bit9

I want to be up front and tell you that I am a sales person for Bit9. We allow you to block all new and unknown software, while allowing you to automatically approve software IT wants on your PC. It is truely a unique approach. We actually just won the Tech Target Bronze Award for Best End Point Security product. There is a ton of information at www.bit9.com

Hope it helps!
