Device Issue

By Widgey Woo ·
Can Anyone Explain To Me What The "Scan For hardware For Changes" Options Does In Device Manager? I Have A Plug N Play Device that is not working, I Have Installed The Manufactuerers drive but the device fails to work. I have seen this option when Iright Click On The Device But Am Reluctant to use it Before I Know What It Does.

Any Info Would Be Helpful

All it does is scan the bus and it will identify any new PNP devices it finds that aren't already in the device database. This should be a low risk thing for you to do.

This option allows you to scan the hardware to check for any problems or incorrect drivers.

It can be used when the system boots up and you donot have to boot into Safe Mode.

It will scan the device to help solve the problem as to why the device is not working,it is helpful and will not harm the system setup

If a USB scanner try a powered USB hub,or connect directly to the cumputers USB port. If serial based, does it show in Hareware Devices at all? Try starting it from its own program or from a program like Abobe Photoshop, Winfax, infoSelect etc..I'llbet the powered hub provides the best solution.
