XPHome is missing some normal stuff, so I don't like it. But, I remember that Device Manager was still in the same location it is in for Win2K.
Right-click My Computer -> Manage
That will bring up Computer Management.
Device Manager is one of theoptions.

hope this helps

You will also want to boot the system to the BIOS (System Setup) and verify that the drive is recognized there as well. It should show up as
Secondary Drive 0 - CDROM Device, or if this is a duel sitituation then the other drive will show up as Seconadary Drive 1. If the drive is recognized here, then you may be looking at either a virus (as there are some viruses that will make the CDROM drive disappear from the OS) or a need to restore/reinstall windows. Check the Performance tab under the system properties and see if any driver are working in MS-DOS compatability mode. This is another indicator of a virus. If there is evidence of a virus, run your virus scanning software to try and clean the virus... Boot into safe mode, go to thedevice manager and remove the CDROM devices listed under the CDROM/DVD Drives, reboot and let windows redetect the devices, this may happen so fast you want notice it. Go back to the device manager and verify that windows did redetect the drives. If Os still not seeing the drives. Move on to virus detection.
