DHCP on my 2520 router does not work

By whickey15 ·
When trying to configure dhcp on either of my two 2520 routers I am given an error. No matter what command im giving once the router see's "dhcp" I get an error. So I typed
(config)#ip dhcp ?
and instead of a list of possible commands that I should be getting, I am prompted with one line saying "hostname or ABCD ..etc"

Does andyone know why this is happening?

did you buy this on Ebay?

what you might have to do is erase the startup config which should prompt setup.

you might want to check Cisco's web site for an IOS for your 2520 and download it. I believe that all the old IOS images for the 2500 series are freely available. Only requirement is to register on their site.

you can then install the IOS onto the router.

If DHCP had been listed

by NetMan1958 In reply to next time

You would have typed "service dhcp" to make sure the dhcp server service was running on the router. The rest of the stuff you are wondering about are the first few options my 2500 series router showed when I ran the command "service ?" on it.

Can you run a "show version" command on your router and post the IOS image filename? It will look something like this:
"System image file is "flash:c2600-i-mz.123-3c.bin"

First things first

by NetMan1958 In reply to Away from the lab

If you will do what I asked in my previous post and run the "show version" command to find out what IOS version you are currently running, I may be able to solve your issue. If you will post the IOS image filename, I can look up what commands/services it supports.

if you go to Cisco's web site you probably can get the latest version. Believe 12.3.26 will work.
