DHCP Relay "Does it have to be a nt ser

By raw ·
For your DHCP server to assign ip address accross multiple subnets you need a DHCP relay pc. I viewed Microsoft Technet and thay stated that you could use a workstation. This would work good for us since all of our servers are on the same subnet. But there is no notes on how to install it on the workstation since the workstation services do not have the DHCP option. Any help on if we can do it and where we can get the DHCP Relay service for nt workstation. We currently have NT Server and Workstation4.0

Open the network dialog box, choose servicies
and click add DHCP relay agent, enter the directory where the source files are located
(I386) click protocols tab and double-click TCP/IP protocol, on the DHCP relay tab enter the IP adress of the DHCPserver, close the TCP/IP tab and restart your computer,
by the way you can use bootp forwarding with a router too.

Better make sure your router is 1542 complient or it will not pass the relay agent through.

I agree with Anwer #1 about the rest.

You do not NEED to have a relay PC. NT server can assign IP addresses across multiple networks on it's own.
