    Dial up

    Locked

Does anyone know how to setup a Dell Laptop to dial out from France using Windows 2000? The dial tone is not recognized when I try to dial out. I have a dual boot system with 98 just because I can’t get this to work in windows 2000.When I use Windows 98 I can configure it to work fine. I?ve tried all the settings but something is missing.

      Hi,

Do you use a PABX type phone system to get out of the building? If so, you would need to enter the line-out number as well to get a dial tone. Where I am to dial out, our standard numbers start with 9. But to dial out via the PABX, we use 0 first.

Try putting a few comma’s between the dial-out number and the actual phone number.

      eg – 0,,,123 1234.

      Hope this helps,

      Andy

No I’m not using a PBX phone system. It’s a direct line. The phone call is being placed overseas, (FRANCE, ITALY) not in the USA. They use a different type of dial tone not like ours in the USA.

      Hi,

I suppose you’ve already checked that the type of phone in use is either pulse or tone, which is a setting in the DUN?

      Regards,

Thank you guys, but I just found out how it will work in windows 2000.
Win98 came with an option for the old modem “Distictive ring”. When in Europe I could set the dial tone to the apropriate tones. In 2000 it doesn’t have that feature so I set the dial tone not to reconize a dial tone at all, just dial.
      It worked.
