    DirectX 6.1 problem?

My friend has a game that when he installes it the setup says the game requires DirectX 6.1 or higher. He has DirectX 8.0 on his computer. In the setup of the game it states that it did not find DirectX 6.1 installed Click OK to installl it. I clickOK and it says that DirectX was already installed or updated. I click OK and the setup continues to the testing part. Everything passed except for the DirectX 6.1 which is required to play the game. I tried to uninstall DirectX 8.0 and allow the game to install DirectX 6.1. I could not find where to uninstall 8.0 so I went to find and deleted the log file and some other file. Which was very stupid of me because I did not think to back up the files. The setup still said that it was already installed. So, I searched on the internet to find DirectX and I found version 7.0. I downloaded it and tried to install. The download went fine but when I tried to intsall it the setup said that it was not nesecary because a later version was already installed. What is going on? How can I uninstall DirectX 8.0? And why is 8.0 not working with this game? The name of it is Might And Magic 7. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.
    Daniel

DirectX is not easy to uninstall, because it can cause problems with the graphics and sound card
Open Windows Explorer and look in C:Windows\System directory and try locating the file, right click and then select delete.

I would say before you un-install anymore files and are running win98 then I would goto run and type in msinfo32, I would then goto the tools menu and select system file checker. I would then click on the setting button and place a check in the changed or deleted boxes and then run the file checker. If it encounters any system files (directx) that have been corrupted/changed/deleted then it will allow a restore. The restore will come from the original install cd so have it handy you may need it. After you go through this you should be ok to reinstall the game. Good Luck ,Let me Know!

I found the problem. The video board was not compatible with DirectX so I enabled the option that uses software to make DirectX work.
