Disabling Outlook Express in W2k Pro

By jrandyo_64 ·
I'm looking for a way to disable Outlook Express. Our environment uses Lotus Notes and we want all email to go through Lotus Notes. Some of the users are using Outlook Express. We have tried to take out all registry entries for Outlook Express and it still comes back. I'm currently looking into a Group Policy that would disable Outlook Express but have had no luck. We use Novell servers with W2k Pro clients' environment. Does anyone know how to do this?, thanks.

RE: Disabling Outlook Express

Well there is two ways you can go about this.

One is if your users are not logging on their machines with administrator rights, you can set permissions on the outlook express folder to allow only the administrator and system to access the folder.Just make sure you uncheck the box for inheriting permissions on the folder.

The second is booting to safemode and delete msimn.exe and setup50.exe from
c:\winnt\system32\dllcache and then to delete them from the OE directory.

You can also remove the registry key which runs setup50
(there are quite a few of them
in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C})
