Disappearing E-mails

By jeffw ·
I have Exchange 5.5 setup in our office with about 10 users. It seams to work well as I can set up our web site to forward to a "free account" and then set up Outlook to retrieve them. So it looks like We have a "real" .com address. Anyway, We have a cable modem plugged into the hub (I know, Proxy server WILL be set up very soon) and the Exchange server gets a IP address from the ISP. This seems to work very well so far, last night I tried to access the Exchange server from my home network, I also have a cable modem. After logging on and attaching to the exchange server I saw my E-mails disappearing! I quickly disconnected. Tried one more time and same result. Went to the shop and they were gone. I am setting up a test account but until I figure this out I do not trust setting anyone else up. Any suggestions?

Dear Jeff,

I hope you solved your problem yet.

I think that your problem is in Client Configuration and not Exchange Server.

If you use Outlook Express Client and configured it by POP3 you have sighn in the advance tab the leave E-Mail in server.
If you use Outlook 98 or 2000 you have configure it also to leave the E-Mails on server.
If you didn't you can find your E-Mail in the local personal folder.
If you use Outlook 97 you haven,t any option toconfigure leave copy of your E-Mail on your server.
Eudora and Netscape also allow you to save a copy of your E-Mail on server.
I will be very appreciate you if you send me feed back about your problem.
Thanks and Best Regards.

Sincerely,
Ron Farzan

P.S.: How did you installed your Exchange, did you installed it based on DNS.
Check also the routing.

Just a thought, but did you have your delivery option within outlook setup to deliver to a personal folder instead of mailbox-<username>. In essence this will move a message one at a time to the pst and the remove it from the message store on the exchange server, so it would appear they are being deleted, although really they're just being moved.
