disappearing emails

By mmrozek ·
I am using a combination of an ADSL line with a static url and dynamic IP. Exchange 5.5 runs on this network and works just great. The mysterious thing is if certain users email from one specific ISP to my domain, the email never arrives at my network. And the local ISP user never receives any kind of error or message failure notification. Is this a DNS problem at the local ISP?

If you are sure it is just one ISP, I would try pinging the mail server from the "problem" locations, if you succeed maybe a tracert or nslookup can help pinpoint the problems- or at least give you some ammo for use when calling the ISP. A good reference for using these tool is appendix A in the NT 4 Server resource kit. You can find a copy of the document at microsoft.com/technet and search on "Appendix A - TCP/IP Utilities Reference"
