disk is full

By cp7212 ·
We are running W2K Server. When certain users try to save .xls files (all there is in this directory is .xls) in one directory only, they receive "disk is full" in a dialog box.

The server has over 50% free space, no disk quota, the users' profiles are not corrupt or any different from profiles that do work, tried re-installing a fresh version of MS Office 2003 (this occurs with Excel 2000 & 2003), I went to the user's personally to make sure there was no user error, and had the server rebooted.

I do not want to have to make local copies and teach the users how to download and upload from/to the server. I would be trading a problem for a nightmare.

Unfortunately, I am restricted as to how much I can really check without having to contact someone else. Just stating that because it may take a day to get back to the forum. Will be on vacation until Monday, take your time answering. As always, thanks for the feedback.

P.S. I read a previous Q & A about this where The Chas answered, and none of that information helped.

Dear,
I suggest to create new shared directory with the same settings of your shared directory the has the (.xls) files, and remove the all files (.xls) from the old directory to the new one.and let the users to use the new directory not the old one.
whats happen ?
Thanx

I am hoping I can get around making changes to the server, as this seems to be a client issue. Only certain users are affected, not the whole node.

Most of the time when I see something like this it's because the workstation's anti-virus software is interfering with the file write to the server. Make sure the AV is *not* configured to check remote files.

AV is not configured to check remote files. Problem still exists.

Check the excel settings on the client machines and make sure that the Macro security is not set to high. Also check on the general tab to make sure that Ignore other programs is not checked.

Macro security is set to medium. "Ignore other applications" box is not ticked. Problem still exists.

Hi

I had a very similar problem when a user was unable to save to our server using MS-Office, particularly Word. The error received was the same as yours.

The client OS was Win98 and the Server was Win2k Server and SBS2000. The solution was to uninstall then reinstall Office (several times). Also, the client machine was a little 'past it', and eventually had to be replaced, and I think this probably had a bearing on the problem.

Have you tried to repair the installation of Office? Have you checked the OS of your client machine.

Good luck
