disk mirroring raid level 1

By EZmoney ·
I am trying to mirror a nt4 sp6a BDC. I log on as Administrator and use disk admin. I have a 4096kb Boot/system partition on drive 0. drive 1 has same size partition. I select the first partition on drive 0 and hold ctrl and selct drive 1 partition but the option to mirror is dithered out. I understand that to mirror the second(mirror drive must be the same size or larger). what do I need to mirror?

You need to have an unformatted partition of equal or greater space on the second disk.

Establish Mirror Command Dimmed in Disk Administrator When Creating a Mirror (Q242075)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Windows NT Server version 4.0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to create a mirror partition, the Establish Mirror command is unavailable on the Fault Tolerance menu in Disk Administrator.

CAUSE
This issue can occur if both partitions that you are using to establish a mirror are not selected in Disk Administrator.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

In Disk Administrator, press and holddown the CTRL key, click the partition you want to mirror, and then click the partition where you want to establish the mirror.

The first drive needs to have a partition created, and the 2nd drive consist of free space.

On the Fault Tolerance menu, click Establish Mirror .

Does this help?

Mirrors
Cannot Establish Mirrors or Option Grayed Out
In Disk Administrator, highlight the partition you want mirrored: hold down <ctrl>, select drive you wish to bethe shadow. Go to the Fault Tolerance menu and select Establish Mirror.

Check to see if there is enough space on the shadow drive. If you are mirroring the whole drive, make sure the primary and shadow drives are the same size and have the same number of cylinders, sectors and heads.

If there has been a partition on the shadow drive, delete it and go to the Partition Menu in Disk Administrator and select Commit Changes.

Make sure the free space is equal to or greater than the size of the primary drive.

If FTDisk does not start, check for a corrupt FTDISK.SYS.
